Applause, please!

Hi lovelies!

*crouches in a corner hiding from the mob of torch-bearing readers* I’m so sorry I went MIA on you for the past couple of days! I kept meaning to post, but life just kind of got in the way. Sorry, everyone…

HOWEVER! I do have some moderately amazing news that may or may not make up for my lack of posting finesse. Wanna hear it? :D Drumroll, please….

Yep, you read that right – after seven months of exhausting my cheesecake tolerance, battling the monster that is writer’s block, staying up till all hours of the night and consequently falling asleep in class, and other hardships, I can finally cross “finish a novel” off my bucket list. At 40,000 words this baby is done at last… applause, please! ;)

No, but seriously, I’m so excited and I’ve actually loved every second of writing this thing. :D I fully realize it’s nowhere near polished and in some parts is probably terrible beyond imagining, but for now I’m taking a bit of a break. I’ve closed the document, and sometime next week I’ll be going back to it with fresh eyes and starting the revising/editing/etc. process. This has been one of my biggest goals for the longest time and I’m incredibly happy it’s done so that I get to start perfecting it! <3

Friday Poetry: “Mistress of Seasons”

Spun 27 September, 2013 / Filed under Words

Hello friends! Just three days until Frozen Hearts is finished – ah, it’s so close! I can’t wait to share it with you all.

But in the mean time, as you may have deduced from this post’s title, I’ve decided to add a new section to the blog – Friday Poetry! Every Friday I’ll share a new poem; I thought it would be a nice way to keep in touch with my love of poetry.

For today’s post we have “Mistress of Seasons”Some of you might remember the poem I posted earlier, “Winter Kitten”, and this is a bit of a companion to it. As always, constructive criticism is welcome! xx

Mistress of Seasons

The mistress of seasons
banishes winter from her sight

she sheds her coat of snow
and awakens her sleeping animals
grows her hair long again,
as the green leaves sprout

she lets the sun shine
and sends away the clouds
grows a soft blanket of flowers,
to keep the her body warm

her voice
lives in the robin’s song
in the bees’ buzzing
in the drip-drip-drip of her cleansing rain

her joy
lives in the deer’s first uncertain steps
in the tree’s first flower bud
in the ducklings’ first swim

and you know she is here
when suddenly
without warning

Little Things

Spun 26 September, 2013 / Filed under Archive

Hi everyone!

Today was pretty humdrum and boring – I had three quizzes in various classes and my best friend is out of school until Tuesday. The upside of the quizzes was that I didn’t have much homework, and I got to write a particularly emotional and heart-rending chapter of FH. So there’s a plus. :D

Wrote today’s poem quite awhile ago, back when the days were long, the sun was hot, and it was socially acceptable to eat an entire tub of ice cream in one sitting. ;) Do let me know what you think!

Little Things

Two ice creams, please.
One French vanilla
and one mint chocolate chip.
Always the same little things
but it’s the little things
that make us who we are.

You and I are walking in the park
hand in hand, in harmony
with the birds and the dogs and the trees.
Just the same little things
but with you the little things
are adventures of the heart.

And you point far away
to a bird that I can’t seem to find
and when I look back there is a ring in your hand.
Such a little thing
but oh, such happiness
this little thing holds.

And the whole park hears my answer
as you pick me up and twirl me around
and kiss me long and hard
Just another little thing
but the taste of the ice cream on your lips
is the best little thing in the world.

Treasure the little things,
someone once told me
and I will treasure
that sweet mint chocolate kiss

A Self-Set Deadline

Spun 22 September, 2013 / Filed under Words

Hi guys!

Frozen Hearts is well on its way to completion – I can almost taste the ending, yikes! I may have mentioned this in a previous post, but I just thought I’d make it official – the self-set deadline for finishing the first draft of FH is September 30th, 2013. (We’re at around 40,000 words – don’t think we’ll make 50,000 in this draft, but I’ll shoot for 45,000 instead.)

Didn’t get a chance to write today, but even so I’m pretty sure I can get it done by the 30th if I work hard over the next week. Gosh, I can’t believe it’s so close. :D The past few chapters have been all action and adventure and CRASH! BANG! BOOM! So much fun to write! *laughs maniacally*

CRASH! BANG! BOOM! (I’m that guy waving his arms.)

Will keep y’all updated until the fateful day!
