The Big News is here at last, with capitalisation and fanfare: I am writing a book! (This in itself is not exactly huge news, I realise. In fact, it is quite mundane news, considering that, the majority of the time, I am writing one book or another.)
But this project is rather different, and special in its own right: not only am I writing a book, but I am writing a book with 15 other people. In 16 days. Courtesy of the people behind the weird and wonderful and wonderfully weird tNY Press.
We have spent the past five days compiling an outline, consisting of troubled detectives and bungled attempts at pickling, murder and madness, conspiracy theories and radio shows and a very sad Elvis. You can view it right here; it is, I must admit, far odder than anything I have ever written before. But also lovely, and so much fun. Incredibly fun.
From now until December 15th is the writing process; we will be writing two chapters each, and jumping in and out of each others' documents in order to edit and refine our parts. You can see all of our documents right here - just scroll down until you reach the "Take a Peek" section. And, in case you are interested: I will be writing Chapter 16 and Chapter 20. So do keep an eye on those - it is the one time I am letting you lovelies into my writing process to see my intensely rough drafts, so I think you won't want to miss it. ;)
After the 15th comes three days of editing by five of the intrepid souls on our team - and then, the moment you've all been waiting for, publication! The book will be available to buy in January 2016, and you will be able to see our finished work in all its glory.
I am so very excited for this, everyone - both the writing and collaborating, and also to let you in to see it. I will, of course, be keeping you updated both through Six Impossible Things and through the newsletter - sharing how things are going and the direction we are taking this story.
And also: don't forget to keep an eye on Twitter! I will be letting you all know when I am working on my chapters, so if you feel like it, you can stare over my shoulder creepily as I write. ;)
I hope you're having a beautiful day. Much love, and I am looking forward to sharing more with you as the project continues! xx
