Hi everyone! Feeling much, much better today. I think I sorted out most of the stuff that was... bothering me over the weekend, so that's good. Hopefully it'll last! I also got quite a bit of work done and read possibly one of the awesomest books ever - yaaaay! :D
... One Chance. It's such a beautiful film, oh my goodness - a friend recommended it to me and I thought the name rang a bell, so I looked it up and found that one of my favourite artists, Taylor Swift, wrote a song that was featured in it ("Sweeter than Fiction"). So then, of course, I had to watch it and was most certainly not disappointed. It follows the true story of Paul Potts, the winner of Britain's Got Talent. What I really loved about this movie was that it had a) ridiculously beautiful music - Paul is actually an amateur opera singer and his voice blew me away, b) adorable characters, and c) a lovely plotline. There was a lot of very subtle humour mixed into it to, so basically, what I'm trying to say is that I was laughing out loud and then sobbing into a tissue ten minutes later. Also, I kind of wanted to just grab the characters and smush them into really big hugs, you know? :P
... Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell. OK SIT DOWN JUST ONE SECOND AND LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THIS BOOK. This book is actually the best book I have ever, ever read, and I know I've said that about a billion times, but it's TRUE for this one, and here's why - you know when you get a book where you just sink right into the world and you're not even expecting it but from page 1 the characters turn into your best friends and you feel like you could just live there with them? Yeah, that's what this book was for me. It felt like between those pages was... home, you know? I'll admit that I didn't really have very high expectations going in - I kind of thought it would be 400 pages of fandom-bashing - but it just blew me away. Cath, the main character, is basically my soul sister. (Picture a nerdy-looking girl who sits in her room all day writing. Who does that remind you of?) Also the author, Rainbow Rowell, is the SWEETEST PERSON on the history of the planet. Twitter conversation from yesterday (and the reason I was totally sitting there internally screaming in Starbucks):
@topazwinters Oh, thank you so much for reading it!

So, yes. Fangirl is totally earning a place on my favourites shelf. (I also did a review on it for YA Asylum with more on why I loved it so much.)
... Frozen Hearts! Alright, guys, I have awesome news: I finished another one of the betas' comments for FH!!!! :D Just three left... ahhhh, the ending is so close I can almost taste it. That one was actually the most detailed out of all the ones I had left, so the last three probably won't take as long, which is a bit of a relief. Plus, more cool things happened: Paper Wings reached 1k hits on Wattpad, which is completely unexpected since I haven't actually been updating it at all (by the way, I'm so sorry about that - hopefully I'll get a chance to update this week, but if not, I promise next week!). And also, since people kept on pestering me about it, I finally posted chapter 4 of Shadows in the Night. I hadn't actually written fanfiction in awhile, but it was so lovely to get back into the Sherlockian world... although I haven't actually watched Sherlock in forever - I might have to do a marathon before I leave for the US this summer. (Hey, Benedict and Martin's faces are reason enough to plant my butt in one place for 4 and a half hours, thank you very much!) I'm kind of really really excited about that story now and I have a bunch of ideas and a vague-ish outline (except for my frankly ridiculous tendency to keep deviating from those pesky outlines...), so I'll be writing more of it. I think we've established by now that I'm HORRIBLE about updating, but I'll try and remember to post it online as well!
Currently Listening To...
... Sweeter than Fiction, by Taylor Swift, from the One Chance soundtrack. I love this song so much. I hadn't listened to it in awhile, but after hearing it in One Chance I'm now basically playing it over and over and over again and abusing Youtube's repeat button. The lyrics are beautiful and inspirational, and it's such a wonderful story in just four minutes of music. I think it fits the film extremely well, actually. Here, have a listen:
I survived final exams! Well, mostly. I have my last one - Chinese speaking - on Wednesday, but other than that, zip, zero, nada! ;) I do have a project for Science, but I swear the teacher basically just Googled "filler projects for end of school", because it's the most cliched thing in the history of the world: constructing an apparatus to protect an egg being dropped from a roof. (And this, my friends, is the story of how I found myself at the supermarket, buying two very large packets of marshmallows and having to explain to a very bemused cashier that no, I'm not actually a glutton - IT'S FOR SCIENCE!) *sigh* Ah, well... just a week left of school, and then sayonara eighth grade and hellllllooooo summer. :D Really excited about getting to go to New York/Washington DC/California - I'll be doing a post on that later, so keep an eye out! Also, my SAT scores are back and I think I did pretty good. 99th percentile on writing, 97th percentile on reading, and 86th percentile on math - 2120/2400 overall. I'm glad that waiting is over, and hopefully I won't have to take it again until much, much later! Also, I heard about the Santa Barbara shootings on Saturday - I won't go into that right now, as I think it deserves its own post, but tomorrow I'll be talking about it.
How was your weekend, everybody?
