It is a truth universally acknowledged that this great symphony of life can, at times, be a tough & trying one to play along to. It is a truth I have tried to explore on this small Internet space of mine - one that haunts my waking hours. One that I hope I have done justice to.
And the literary magazine where I serve as the editor-in-chief, Half Mystic, is learning this more & more as we edit and compile submissions for our second issue, saudade: the drifting photograph – the ache so tender-willing – the shards of bitter-soft yearning just before the fall.
Yet still, even in all of this loss & this memory & this grief, the Half Mystic team is bolstered by the threads of strength & hope woven into it all. How, even in times of sorrow, the music holds strong. How it always carries us through the storm.
I could not be more honoured to share with you that preorders for Half Mystic’s Issue II: Saudade are now officially open: for nights soft & aching, for days tender & sorrowful, for the moments of life when only music can ease the hurt of remembering. This volume is shaping up to be possibly even more beautiful than our inaugural allegro issue, with work from artists Jamie Uy, Lydia Havens, Talia Flores, Karen Janowsky, Lana Bella, Hugo Esteban Rodriguez, Robert F. Auld, Kevin Rabas, Howie Good, Lisa Heller, Dorothy Chan, and more. Preorder it right here.
But if you missed the allegro issue, never fear! All those who preorder either a physical or digital copy of Issue II will also receive a digital copy of Issue I as a thank you from the HM team for your loveliness – and so that you can immerse yourself in even more wonder in your wait for Issue III! (Truly, my friends, I am so excited about this. Soon you will be able to binge-read Half Mystic, which makes me deliriously happy.)
One more lovely thing: in addition to the saudade issue, we are honoured to be partnering with our friends over at the Singapore bookseller BooksActually to carry physical copies of our allegro issue. Singaporean friends, do remember to swing by BooksActually and pick up your copy of Issue I; it is bursting with melody & with magic. I & the whole team could not be more delighted to have it on BooksActually’s shelves.
Remember to pre-order Issue II: Saudade & get your free digital copy of the allegro issue – and, if you would like to add your voice to the magic, writing & music submissions for saudade are open until later this year!
We have been working so hard on this issue, and I am truly excited to share it with you. It is shaping up to be sad & hopeful, nostalgic & strong, all at once. How beautiful it is to have you on this wondrous journey with me. With all of us.
