This weekend has been... surprisingly okay. I'm not sure exactly why, but I'm certainly thankful. These past two weeks have been an onslaught of anxiety and depression - and I can still feel the lingering vestiges of sadness, however faint - but for the moment, I am mostly just feeling calm. Somewhere on the brink of peace.
It's a relief, to be honest. And I'm enjoying it while it lasts.
On top of that bit of good news, here is another that I've been looking forward to for a very long time - the American Writers Festival is coming to Singapore, and its writers are dropping by my school to perform their work and do Q&A sessions over the course of the next few days! They are all breathtakingly talented, and we are so very lucky to have a chance to speak with them. Needless to say, I've been counting down the days
As for me, I will mainly be existing in the same airspace as Tina Chang; she is the poetry representative of the festival, and also one of my absolute favourite poets. Truly, you must read her work - but make sure you're sitting down first, you'll need it!
On Tuesday, I'm attending her reading at the official American Writers Festival, and then just afterwards sticking around for her panel with Rajiv Joseph, Desmond Kon, and Eleanor Wong. Wednesday, I'm attending a poetry workshop with just Ms Chang and a few other poetically inclined students. Thursday she is giving a reading at school, which I am introducing; and all three days I'll be having lunch with her and the other writers.
(I think it will probably be an accomplishment not to burst into fangirling sprees at any given moment over this week. Do wish me luck on that, lovelies. ;))
So I am taking it one day at a time, as ever - I'm simply crossing my fingers that the calmness lasts long enough for me to enjoy what is looking to be an absolutely beautiful couple of days. (Chock-full of poetry, just the way I like it. ;)) And of course, I will be sure to let you know on Friday how it goes.
To my lovely Singaporeans, are you coming to any of the American Writers Festival panels? If so, please do let me know here or shoot me a tweet; I'd love to meet up.
And for my international friends - how is this week looking for you? Let's chat in the comments. xx
