October so far has served as a tender deconstruction of parts of myself I thought I needed, a small & seductive reimagining of what it means to learn & what it means to love. It’s far too easy for me to get lost in the halls of a school like Princeton, entrenched in its history & still so new as I inhale it. It’s far too easy for me to get lost in my own histories & forget what it means to forge a path forward through all this marble & imagining. The seasons are changing & I feel that itch in the wind telling me that this month will be one consisting of songs that will save my life whether I permit them to or not.
Here’s a selection of songs for your witching hours & rainy mornings this October. A little more pop than usual this month—one or two oldies, as always—several indie crooners—& a few others here, a few others there. Dear friends, if we spent the summer burning the things we knew to ashes, may this autumn be one of terrible & gorgeous resurrection.
