Half-Asleep, Wishing I Still Had You / Songs for September

September always strikes me as a bittersweet sort of month, marked by stillness & coffee & sunrise & deersong. This September my baby sister begins high school, & I start a new job (my first in the corporate, deep-technology world), & most friends leave Singapore for university, & I turn 19. Those tender terrifying truths rest heavy on my tongue—it feels this shade of growing up comes sleepless & spare, at once far too fast & never fast enough.

So here, then, is a mix of songs for that hot cinnamon-tang of ache & joy, one I’m still exploring, kneading, tonguing like the hole left behind after a lost tooth. September’s playlist features Vance Joy & Sundial & Aretha Franklin & Khalid & The Beatles & St. Vincent & Louis Armstrong more. It is, I think, apt for this month of spark-honey liminality.

One more quick note: if you enjoy my work on the blog & elsewhere, please take a moment to support my work on Patreon. I’m a completely independent, reader-supported artist; contributing even a dollar a month goes a huge way in helping me continue to bring bright things to you.

Thank you, friends—& enjoy the mix. I love you so. xx
