Dog With Rain (2018)

just a tiny snippet of tenderness for you, the gorgeously simple & the simply gorgeous, a moment with hachiko from a few months ago. i love the idea of building a nest for this ridiculous lovely dog on the window ledge, making a ritual of watching him watch the world go by.

when these were taken it was the dry season & so rain was rare(r than normal), & maybe that’s why he was so enamoured with it, gazing out the window, rapt instead of tapered. but more likely—or at least, i prefer to think—his canine senses pricked onto something outside the window of humming fancy, a tinge of the unreal, faerie footprints lingering on the windowsill. maybe that is just my fickle human heart looking for magic in the mundane. probably it is.

but it’s monsoon season, & the rain comes almost daily, & now that i’ve begun a new job i don’t get to see him nearly as often as either of us would like. (i think perhaps he was spoilt by this summer of so many of the family at home, constantly pressed softly against our backs, we couldn’t move our chairs a centimetre without bumping into his nose or tail.) when i come home in the evenings i sit him with him on the bed or floor or window ledge, & i scratch his ears & i tell him how my day has been & i ask him about his own.

& i swear this darling dog sees so much in the sky outside, more than i could witness even if i was here to see it with him. i swear every time he sits next to me & tells me about his day in sneezes & ear swivels & whisker twitches & loud yawns, it’s this: the rain came again, & i wish you could see the crescent-quiet magic it holds, i wish i could show you the stories it traces into truth, i wish you saw what i see. i wish you could imagine the unimaginably large objects & places & yearnings & plans all that water holds.

or, maybe he is just saying: i would like a tummy rub, now.

but i suppose we’ll never know, will we?

Me Me Me Monday (8)

Hey guys! So, I've decided to edit the style of Me Me Me Mondays. You'll remember how there are usually four different sections - what I'm watching, what I'm writing, what I'm reading, and what I'm listening to. To make them a bit more free-flowing (because I'm kind of opposed to structure of any kind - so sue me. ;) ), I'm adopting a new way of doing it. In essence, it's just me talking - same as all my other posts, except instead of various writerly/musical endevaours, it'll just be about my life in general. No huge change! :)

Ok, can I just say: it was SO HARD for me to wake up this morning. It seems that this whole "school" thing is harder to get back into than I had imagined. :P Although high school isn't nearly as difficult as I might have thought, the routine takes some adjusting to! (Plus, no more binge-watching Supernatural or reading books for hours on end. *sigh*) Not to mention my first test is on Wednesday - it's in Algebra II/Trig, which is kind of nerve wracking, since math is definitely not my best subject.

There's also some not-so-great updates regarding Hachii - I don't know if I mentioned, but he has a skin infection (in the form of a sore on his hind leg) which has been driving him crazy in the past couple of weeks. He's had to wear the Cone of Shame so that he doesn't lick it and it just generally hasn't been a good situation for any of us. :/ We took him to the vet yesterday, and she put him on a new course of antibiotics which haven't been agreeing with his stomach - there's been vomiting, diarrhoea, all that jazz. Not entirely sure what's going to happen now, but he has to keep wearing the cone until it's sorted, and I think he might go crazy if he isn't allowed to scratch his ears (or worse, might go crazy - he's apparently chosen me to be the ear-scratcher, and I have to drop everything whenever he wanders into my room or else he'll sit there and whine at me until I comply!).

But in better news, something REALLY INSANELY EXCITING is happening tomorrow: Taylor Swift is doing a livestream on Yahoo (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). This is a really huge and slightly emotional thing for me, since Taylor is the one who introduced me to the world of music and a big part of the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place (whoa, I just realised how long ago that was... so many memories!). If you're on Twitter, you've probably heard about it - since her name has been trending for the past week - but the #1 rumour is that she's going to release her fifth album cover and release date. So therefore, I finished all my homework early today so that I can go to bed and wake up at 4 in the morning to watch the livestream with my best friend (who lives in Columbus and therefore has a more... accessible timezone. GRRRRRRRRR. *shakes fist in jealousy*)

So that was me this weekend! What about you guys? Anything exciting happen? Let's catch up in the comments section! :)

love, Topaz
