Welcome to New York

I think New York is the crankiest city in the world.

(I have yet to determine whether that is the reason why I am so head-over-heels in love with it.)

Perhaps one of these days I will find the words to encompass all the madness & mayhem & magic of New York City. I'm not quite sure where they're hiding, to be honest - stuffed into the back of a taxicab, perhaps, or lounging on a fire escape. One of these days I will find a way to tell you about all these intangible wonders.

But instead, here is a list of things I have rediscovered in New York, in the hopes that you, dear reader, can conjure the words yourself -

bagels & lox. times square. the greasiest (yet somehow, also the best) pizza in the world. the magic of the grand central train station. all of the slightly odd & remarkably lovely people one runs into on the subway. bright yellow taxi cabs. new yorkers, who dance between brutal honesty & flat-out rudeness. skyscrapers. new york public library. a night that is never too dark to be lit up by city lights.

Perhaps one of these days I will find the words. But for now -

for now, I think I will let New York speak for itself.
